It’s Fall: Time to Close Your Pool the Right Way
Pool Maintenance
The leaves are turning, the nights are cooler, and your pool is probably due for some attention. Fall closing season sneaks up fast, and getting it right now saves you a world of trouble when it’s time to open back up in spring. Here’s what you need to know before the temperature really drops.
Why Closing Season Matters
A pool that isn’t closed properly doesn’t just sit there quietly all winter. Freezing water expands, and expanding water in your pipes, filter, and pump can crack equipment you’d rather not replace. On top of that, leftover debris and unbalanced chemicals can turn your water green and gross by the time spring rolls around.
A proper closing helps protect:
- Your pump, filter, and heater from freeze damage
- Your pipes from damage
- Your pool surface from staining
What Cool Pool Includes in Every Closing
Our technicians take care of the whole process so you can feel secure when temperatures drop.
- Lowering water levels below the skimmers and returns
- Draining and winterizing your pump, filter, and heater
- Blowing out lines and adding antifreeze as needed
- Storing ladders, rails, and other removable accessories
- Fitting and securing your winter cover
Service Season Isn’t Over Yet
Our technicians will also check equipment and pool conditions and advice on recommendations or repairs for next season.
While You Wait for Your Appointment
If your closing date is still a few weeks out, keep skimming leaves and debris so they don’t settle and stain the pool floor. Remember to empty your skimmer and pump baskets more frequently as the leaves can accumulate and cause your pool flow to be off . Keep testing your chemical levels too, since cooler weather and lighter pool use can throw balance off faster than you’d expect. You can turn down your chlorinators and salt generators, and you make need to supplement with chlorine if you are salt pool and the water is not above 65 degrees.
Let’s Get You Winter Ready
Don’t wait until the first freeze to think about your pool. Cool Pool’s team is ready to handle your closing and any last-minute service so you can head into winter worry free.
